Schools, Colleges and Community in Central Minnesota

School districts in Monticello, St. Cloud and Becker, plus St. Cloud State, SCTCC and Saint Benedict / Saint John's in the area.

For many families, schools are the first thing they research before a move. Central Minnesota offers a mix of public school districts, online options and colleges, all within a reasonable drive of each other.

Monticello Independent School District 882

Monticello's public schools are part of Monticello Independent School District 882. The district lists these schools and programs:

St. Cloud Area School District 742

District 742 includes eight elementary schools, two junior high schools and two high schools. Its elementary schools are spread across St. Cloud, Waite Park, St. Joseph and the Clear Lake area. Kennedy, in St. Joseph, serves preschool through grade 8 and hosts the district's Spanish Immersion program. North and South junior highs serve grades 6 through 8, and Apollo and Tech are the district's two high schools. The district also offers the Central Minnesota Virtual Academy online for grades 9 through 12, along with alternative learning programs.

Becker and the surrounding towns

The City of Becker notes that it is served by the Becker Area School District, which has served the community for over 100 years. Other towns in the region, including Big Lake, Elk River, Buffalo, Sartell and Sauk Rapids, are served by their own districts. School boundaries do not always match city limits, so it is worth confirming the district for any specific address.

Colleges and universities

The St. Cloud area is a true college town. Higher education options include:

Community life

Beyond the classroom, these communities offer places to gather. The Monticello Community Center combines City Hall with a climbing wall and an indoor water park. In St. Cloud, Munsinger Gardens hosts Music in the Gardens concerts on alternating summer Sundays. Parks, libraries and youth sports fill out the calendar year-round.
